About Megan Bucholz

Chichen Itza, Mexico

¡Hola! Me llamo Megan Bucholz.

I pronounce my last name “buckles.”

I started studying Spanish in 8th grade and continued until level 4 in high school. I took my senior year off of Spanish as I didn’t think I’d ever need to study it again, but chose it in college as my major, psychology, required a foreign language. I earned straight A’s in Spanish in college, added it as a double major, and participated in a study abroad program in Oviedo, Spain. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Oregon in 2002 with honors in Spanish.

After college I spent three months immersing myself in the culture of Ecuador as I backpacked alone throughout much of the country.

I later returned to South America for a year to teach English in Peru and Chile and then explore Argentina, Bolivia, and my beloved Ecuador again. I moved to Boulder in 2005 and earned a Master’s in Educational Foundations, Policy, and Practice from CU.  As I’ve now settled into “adult life,” I travel less frequently, but I’ve been able to spend a month in Nicaragua, a few weeks in Puerto Rico, and explored Mayan ruins in Mexico.

I dream of visiting Guatemala some day.
