It seems a bit easier to learn our question words in English because they basically are “w” words- who, what, when, where, why… and how?
In Spanish, question words need to be learned like the rest of vocabulary words, and the sooner the better. Question words are a foundational part of language, and we all know that a strong foundation is the key to success.
Who – ¿Quién?
What – ¿Qué?
Where – ¿Dónde?
To where – ¿Adónde?
From where- ¿De dónde?
When – ¿Cuándo?
Why – ¿Por qué?
How – ¿Cómo?
Two things to note here: 1) the upside down question mark indicates a question word. Mac users can add one to their documents by hitting shift + option + ?
2) ALL question words have accent marks. This makes sense when you see them with their non-question word counterparts.
Who- quien
What – que
Where- donde
when – cuando
Why – por que
How- como
